Barcelona Model United Nations 2026

About the Conference

BCNMUN is a high school Model United Nations conference hosted by the American School of Barcelona. It has been planned and run entirely by the school's students since it began, with a new student executive team chosen each year. The fourteenth edition takes place in Barcelona from 19 to 21 November 2026 under the theme of moving from crisis to cooperation in an unstable, globalised world. The opening ceremony is held on the University of Barcelona's Humanities Campus at Plaça de la Universitat. Five committees each debate two topics. The conference is meant for students in grades 9 to 12, roughly ages 14 to 18, and works in English. Each committee is led by a president chair supported by expert chairs, and the website offers a delegate centre with preparation guides and a dress code for first timers. Committees 🤝 General Assembly (Foreign intervention in areas of severe hunger crisis; Regulating the resurgence of private military companies) 💊 United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (Transnational criminal organisations and the limits of national sovereignty in law enforcement; Illicit drug economies as hidden employment networks in vulnerable communities) 🕊️ United Nations Human Rights Council (Internet shutdowns as tools of political repression; Accountability for conflict related sexual violence against civilians) 🛡️ Security Council (State sponsored international espionage; Externally sourced arms trafficking and armed groups in Haiti) 💼 Economic and Financial Affairs Council (The economic impact of climate change on developing nations in maritime trade; Reparative economic measures for states disadvantaged by colonial exploitation)
