The McGill Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN) is the largest collegiate Model United Nations conference in Canada and one of the largest in North America. Founded in 1989 and held annually in downtown Montréal, Québec, McMUN welcomes over 1,200 delegates from around the world and is supported by more than 250 student staff members. Entirely student-run, the conference is recognized as one of McGill University’s most prestigious academic events and is renowned for its vibrant debates, innovative committees, and distinguished keynote speakers. Past speakers include former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, and former Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations Louise Fréchette. McMUN’s mission is to foster a welcoming environment where young leaders can engage in dialogue and collaborate on solutions to global issues. Its academic programming spans three main portfolios: General Assemblies and Economic and Social Councils (ECOSOCs), Specialized Committees (SPECs), and Crisis Committees. Within each portfolio, delegates participate in individual committees—the bodies in which debate and negotiation take place.
